Long Durational Performance—2017

With her durational performance In Situ, dance and performance-artist Elena Antoniou attempts to create a living exhibit in the here and now of a museum. Placing the body on a pedestal, the performer redefines the relationship between the visitor/spectator and the work of art and time itself, creating new conditions of observing for museum visitors, given that the context and content of the event are continuously in flux as the piece unfolds. Through this performative gesture, the performer attempts to transform the human presence into a timeless work of art.
Up to now, In Situ has been presented for 21 days, 129 hours at Archaeological Museum of Piraeus, Cyprus Museum, Rialto Theater, Neues Museum Berlin and Archaeological Museum of the Lemesos District.
The performance In Situ encourages the spectator/ visitor to experience the performance as long as it needed, to exit and return in the space as many times as one wishes.
